Published Author!
Well, to be technical I am now a self-published author but all the cool kids are doing it so why not me?
I have been writing fiction seriously for a while now. By serious I mean that I dedicate one day a week to it. And by dedicate one day a week to it, I mean I cram it in as best I can and hope that the muse strikes me or if not I can push myself to create around adulting and single-parenting and keeping appointments with my Doctor, etc.
I have found myself in a real slump in recent months, stalling out a third of the way through an urban fantasy novel and dealing with so many perimenopausal symptoms I thought I was losing my mind. The good news is I am finally feeling better and the relief is immense. I had no idea how badly the fatigue and brain fog were impacting my writing and self-confidence.
I also received another boost recently from my hairdresser, of all people. After checking me out on Instagram, possibly to assess my vibe and find talking points before our last appointment, she asked me about my writing and encouraged me to self-publish on Amazon and put my book out into the world.
So I have. I set up an account on Amazon KDP, thoroughly edited and uploaded my first collection of short romance stories and chewed my nails to bits for a week waiting for it to go live. Now, it is much too soon to see where this journey will take me (if any where at all) but at least I have learned the process and done something to further my writing career and I feel very brave.
It is funny how taking charge and setting a goal like this can open up the door to inspiration. This morning I opened up my files and dusted off some other stories and have already come up with a title and a plan for a second collection that I aim to self publish at the end of the summer if I can get all the stories completed.
And, I have not given up on finishing my first novel. I am just hoping that the momentum from this will carry me forward in learning the skills I need to finish it. I will definitely keep you all in the loop.
If you are interested in checking out my new book, please click the link below. I would absolutely love to hear any feedback. It is currently only in ebook form and is available through Kindle unlimited if you subscribe to that. If you are interested in a paperback print on demand format let me know and I can learn to set that up too!
Hooray! Talk to you next week.
